About Hyperbarics

The impact Hyperbaric Oxygen on Health and Wellness

The impact Hyperbaric Oxygen on Health and Wellness Oxygen is the essence of life. Without food, the human body can survive weeks. Without water, the human body can survive 3–5 days. Without oxygen the human body can survive for 4-6 minutes without significant irreversible consequence. Oxygen is essential to producing the energy that cells and tissues to perform their function. The first uses of alterations of atmospheric pressure to benefit health can be traced back to 1660. The relationship between hypoxia (lack of oxygen) and inflammation form the basis for most of the situations in which hyperbaric oxygen can be shown to be beneficial.

We are glad to assist you as you consider Hyperbaric Oxygen at Island Hyperbaric Centre as an option along your path to wellness. With over 30 years experience in this field, our commitment to safety, technology have set us apart as a leading destination for HBOT.

The Basics of Hyperbaric Therapy:

Hyperbaric therapy involves breathing of enhanced levels of oxygen in a pressurized chamber. For over 190 years, the use of alteration of atmospheric pressure has capture the interest of those seeking to optimize their well-being or performance enhancement. In many situations, this non-invasive therapy compliments traditional therapeutic approaches to health care.

How Hyperbaric Chambers Work?

The hyperbaric chamber creates an environment where atmospheric pressure is higher than normal. During sessions, individuals breathe oxygen, by augmenting the atmospheric pressure a gradient is established that allows higher concentrations of oxygen to diffuse into the fluids of the body increases the availability of oxygen to the body’s tissues.

Patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy enter a 2-person clear acrylic chamber where they breathe 100% oxygen delivered to the chamber under increased atmospheric pressure. During the sessions, which typically last 1 to 2 hours, patients relax, read, watch television, or sleep while they are carefully monitored by highly trained technicians with whom they can communicate easily through an intercom system. Hyperbaric oxygen sessions are safe and painless, although approximately 5% of patients (typically those who report ear pain with flying) may experience mild ear discomfort.

Potential Benefits of Hyperbaric Therapy

As a result of the COVID era, we have learned that each of us has specific and individualized health challenges. Many of these are underpinned by the lack of oxygen and inflammation.  Hyperbaric therapy has been shown to be beneficial in situations where inflammation may be an issue. The response to Hyperbaric Oxygen varies. We encourage individuals to explore this option with an open mind and consult with their healthcare professionals for personalized advice.  While not a cure-all, the positive experiences shared by people that have chosen to incorporate hyperbaric oxygen into their health journey are intriguing as many report:

  • Boosted Energy Levels: Breathing in oxygen in a pressurized setting might leave you feeling more energized and revitalized.
  • Improved Recovery: Some folks find that hyperbaric sessions help their bodies recover better after physical exertion, stress or inflammation.
  • Relaxation and Stress Relief: The cozy environment of a hyperbaric chamber can be a calming space, offering a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

  • Relief of Brain Fog- The underlying causes of Brain Fog can vary. Many individuals that have incorporated hyperbaric oxygen into their plan for wellness report improvement in concentration, memory and mental fatigue.
  • Creation of new blood vessel into hypoxic- Sequential Hyperbaric sessions have been associated with development of new blood vessel to relieve hypoxia by normalizing tissue oxygen availability

These observations reported by individuals that have undergone hyperbaric sessions suggest there might be more to discover about the relationship between oxygen and well-being.
